- Introduction -
Welcome to HostName. I wrote this after linking my A4000 (Deanna) and my A3000
(Tasha) together. Since I have limited deskspace, and only one monitor, I ended
up switching keyboards and re-plugging monitor leads. So most the time I had no
idea on which of both my machines I was working. As I have both machines set-up
virtually the same. :-) So the idea for HostName was born. What it does is open
a tiny window, basically only a dragbar with a close gadget and depth gadget in
which it displays the Host Name you gave to Envoy for the machine it is running
on. The size of this window depends on the default screen font size you set and
the length of the Host name. You may place this window anywhere on your screen
and it will remember it's position the next time you start it up. (When you use
the Close gadget it writes that position into ENVARC:HostName.prefs)
- Overview -
Features:
- Auto-detaches from the CLI or Shell as not to hog it.
- It's fairly font-sensitive. (Although windowsize is always a bit to wide when
a proportional font is used.)
- Uses virtually no cpu-time and very little memory.
- It's position-smart. You can place it where you want and it remembers.
- It's user-friendly. No configuring, just point and click.
- There is no charge for using it. :-)
- It's free of Enforcer Hits. At least I couldn't create any.
- It has a nice icon. :-)
Usage:
- From the CLI just type HostName.
- On the WorkBench, just click on it's icon.
Known Problems:
- When a proportional font is used, the width of the window is always to large.
(Any easy solution for this?)
- Copyright & Distribution -
HostName is freely-distributable if that distribution is done non-commercially.
But it is still Copyrighted by me and it may not be bundled with any commercial
package without my prior written agreement. And this, unaltered, doc file must
always accompagny the HostName program. HostName is supplied as-is. I will not
be responsible for *any* damage caused by reading this document, or running the
program.
